Testify before members of the Ways and Means committee, which is in charge of the state’s budget and decides how our state’s resources are allocated.
Speaking up at these “Roadshows” will remind committee members that we need immediate resources to: support Oregonians struggling to pay the rent, ensure the continued success of the Oregon Foreclosure Avoidance (OFA) Program, and preserve currently affordable homes.
We also need to let legislators know that they have an opportunity to make a terrain-shifting investment: $100,000,000 for the development of new homes.
At the roadshow hearings you will have limited time to testify. We recommend you follow this template:
Co-Chair Devlin, Co-Chair Buckley, Members of the Committee:
I’m (your name) and I live in (your neighborhood). I am here to urge you to increase housing opportunity in my community.
Members of (your community) are struggling to pay the rent and have enough money left for basic necessities like food and medicine. (Tell a story of need from your community or refer to housing need sheet from your county).
We know that 20,000 children in our state and thousands of others in our communities do not have a place to call home. Our families need homes if we are to build a successful economy, achieve higher levels of education, and become healthier communities.
Please support (choose one):
- The $100,000,000 investment for housing
- An increase to the Emergency Housing Account and State Homeless Assistance Program
- Funding to ensure the continued success of the of the Oregon Foreclosure Avoidance (OFA) Program
Thank you for your service.
