Oregon Housing Advocates Storm the Capitol

Thursday, February 6th was the Housing Opportunity Lobby Day for the Oregon Housing Alliance, and with a giant winter storm hitting Oregon, it was a memorable one. Many advocates braved the cold and wintry weather to drive to Salem, while many others joined us in spirit from their homes where they were stuck in the snow. The day will be remembered by advocates and Legislators alike for a while to come!

We began the morning with a warm welcome from Senate Majority Leader Diane Rosenbaum (Portland) and House Minority Leader Mike McLane (Central Oregon). We talked over the Housing Opportunity Agenda, which includes requests for money to help prevent and end homelessness; a request for money to continue access to a counseling and legal assistance system for homeowners facing foreclosure; and a compromise proposal to help residents of manufactured home communities purchase their park in the event of a sale.

We also thanked Representative Gene Whisnant (Sunriver) and Representative Nancy Nathanson for their hard work on a workgroup which advanced a compromise proposal which benefits both manufactured home park owners and park residents.
